Story-in-Short:

Shitiz, a successful celebrity chef, collapsed while in front of his television audience while hosting his popular cookery show. His fans, mainly housewives, were shocked and worried about him. The doctor gave the verdict.... Shitiz had very limited time. Shitiz asked to meet Shadia. Who was she? Why did he want to meet her? Shitiz carried with him the burden of his past which had made him a hardened alcoholic and chain smoker... a past that was a deeply troubled one. What was his story? How did he reach the present situation? Did Shitiz survive? Did he finally meet Shadia? What was their connection?

In my view:

All of us think that the life of a celebrity is enjoyable, with hefty income, elite friends and deluxe lifestyle. But, not all that glitters is gold. There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes. Every person, including celebrities and millionaire tycoons, has some tension or the other. They may not be publicizing it but, they do have several issues to deal with. Saransh Kumar’s ‘A Live Life So Painful’ brings us a throbbing story of a celebrity chef.

Celebrity chef Shitiz suddenly collapses while hosting his cooking show on television. An unconscious Shitiz is rushed to hospital where doctors declare that he is in the final stage of cancer, and cannot survive for more than a month or two. When in hospital, Shitiz proposes his final wish to meet his school-days lover Shadia, with whom he loses contacts. Coincidentally, Shadia turns out to be a Cancer Specialist. Shadia takes him to her house where both of them share stories about their life. Shitiz’s life is fraught with the past, and this fraught troubles him for quite a long time. But what is his story? What has he experienced in the past? Is he able to survive? Grab your copies to go through this interesting tale of Shitiz and his life.

If I were to pick this book, I wouldn’t have done so by looking at its cover. It looks so dull and obtuse. There could have been a better cover for the book. Thankfully, the title is catchy. The story feels fresh and unique. The beginning is so damn beguiling that it urges readers to explore more. Besides, the story is very well narrated by the author, and for a reader it becomes easy to connect with the story.

I must admit that in the initial stages, the story feels a bit predictable but this feeling disappears as the story proceeds ahead. There are so many enthralling parts which prevent readers from putting the book down. In the later part, the story becomes a bit speedy. It would have retained its charm had the author pursued it at the normal pace. Also, a few lines repeat in the story and this leads to slight irritation among readers.

I would ask my readers to give it a try, as the novel gets a different and an interesting tale.

Considering everything, I would rate the book with 4/5. Congratulations to the author for his debut novel and hope he continues writing!

Note: A review copy of the book was provided by the author.
