Story-in-Short:

“Hurry up or be left out!” 

Haven’t we all heard this at least thousand times in our lives?

(Okay you have heard more.)

The point is we are all in a hurry to make something. Be it careers, relationsships, excuses, success, cover-ups, babies, lives. 

Om and Hari. 

Their dreams may be at the far ends of a rope, their journeys may be markedly different from each other’s but their desire is common-to-make it on their own! 

What makes this even more tedious is their race against time in doing so. They are the dreamers, the strugglers, the under dogs, the go getters, the nerve wreckets, the charmer’s and… they are You! 

In my view:

Sometimes, we can simply overcome the difference between us and someone else, and help each other in a lot many ways. How much ever the variances may be, the role we play in the other person’s life often helps us to get along pretty well and a new chapter in life thus emerges. 

Parul Tyagi’s fascinating story revolves around Om and Harini, two distinctly different individuals, forced to meet and see each other by their respective families, with the sole intention of getting married. What makes the two stand apart is the evidently wide difference between their characters and journey. However, their aspirations are more or less the same. So, can desires dissolve the difference and draw them closer? Can these desires give rise to a new equation? 

Well, this is what you’ve got to find out from the book. The story is totally fresh and something you would want to immerse in. And once you start reading it, the story pulls your attention in such a way that you won’t feel like halting in the course of reading. For me, I could finish it in just two settings! 

The cover of the book is interesting. But what is even charming and intriguing is the title. The story moves comprehensibly, but at a quick pace – which the readers are going to enjoy for sure. The narrative is  fascinating, and so is the narration -- it becomes a bit dull in the central part though. Apart from the protagonists, there are other characters too, which nowhere collide or create confusion.

The best part about this book is the feeling of watching a movie that one experiences in the course of reading! I am recommending it to all those who are looking forward to read something really fresh and unique! 

Considering everything, I am rating the book with 4/5. Congratulations and best wishes to the author for her debut novel!

Story-in-Short:

Mohan, a small town boy, is nothing but hopeful when he moves to Delhi to complete his education. After all, this is what he had always planned to do, to take a leap towards his big dreams. And for once he finds his new life to be absolutely lovely, like he has often pictured it would be.

But this good phase doesn’t last long. His life is soon shattered to pieces when his first relationship meets a tragic end. A sadness like he had never known before overwhelms him, keeping him wide awake at nights. 

But it is just the beginning, beginning to a terrible chain of events that would lead him to a deadly confrontation with his own dark past.

Will Mohan be able to overcome this darkness? Will he ever get solace? Or will his innocence be lost in the intense colour of blood?

In my view:

Shadow – this is nothing new for us, is it? In the hot afternoon, while walking on streets, one can look at his own shadow. Shadow of vehicles, buildings, objects, etc. is so very common for us. But which is this shadow that the writer calls unwanted?

Here I am done reading The Unwanted Shadow by Bhaskaryya Deka. And I must say that this book has an amazing story for readers. 

The protagonist of the story Mohan Sharma belongs to a little known town of Assam. Being the only boy, among his three elder sisters, utmost love and affection is showered upon him by his family members. But as Mohan grows up and acquaints himself to the family realities, he develops a different feeling. Father catches up one of his sister kissing a boy and then she gets a good bashing. Mohan is unable to see the pains that his sister goes through. Neither Mohan nor his sisters talk to their father after this incident. 

Finally, she is married off to a boy father chooses. And soon after her marriage, one day, father goes missing. A week later, tree of difficulties collapses on the family as father’s body is found. Meanwhile, Mohan secures an admission into a Delhi college. He moves there and accustoms himself according to the city life. He goes through two relationships which later break-up but the third one turns out to be a successful one. They marry off and then something happens which turns everything upside down. There comes a drastic twist in the story thereafter. Also, some shadows turn Mohan’s nights into worst. But I won’t reveal anything more than this as the further part you will yourself have to find out from the book. 

From my side, I can guarantee this that the book delivers an awesome story and every reader will surely enjoy it. 

Over-all: A man above and a shadow below catches eye balls and the title sends a chill down the spine. Untill and unless I engrossed myself in the story, I kept on thinking about the title The Unwanted Shadow. But it was only after I completed reading the novel that got to know about which Unwanted Shadow the author talks about. The narration of the book is also perfect. Plots of the story and the storylines, both go well. The author could have given a tempting start to the story. Also, at some places, I did feel the story a bit inflated. Otherwise, the story is interestingly. 

Thus, recommending it to my readers, I would rate the book with 4/5. Congratulations to the author for his debut novel and hope he comes up with more such interesting novels!
