  • Book: Kashi- a Novel.
  • Author: Terin Miller.
  • Publication House: Author’s Empire.
  • Category: Fiction.
  • Rating: ****
First a confession: After having read this book I have become a great fan of author Terin Miller. Here, I would like to quote Ritu Lalit, ‘A spellbound tale by an American author about an Indian woman who redefines freedom in the conservative Indian society if 1980’s.’

Well, talking about the book, Kashi is a story of a generation of Indians unlike any that has come before them – born in a free and independent country. The book introduces four main characters viz. John, Chet Bardus, Meetha and Liz. John, a journalist associated with an American organization, covers some local stories from there. Chet Bardus is an American who comes to Varanasi. Liz is a student who arrives in India for her research work and get’s in touch with Meetha who is the daughter of a Delhi-based wealthy import-export businessman.

Liz and Meetha in Varanasi, meet and befriend John and Bardus and then the riveting and alluring story takes its grip. The story, I must say, has been presented in an effective manner.

The fashion in which Terin Miller has described certain things, places in the book really makes a reader stick to it for as long as possible. Especially the portrayal of their trip to Windamere Mountain’s is the best narrated part.

The tale describes India during older times. It revitalizes the generation of 1980’s. It shows the perspective of Indian’s of those days.

Having born in an modern generation, I always had this curiosity of knowing about the older days. My relatives did tell me spectrum of things but those, truly fall less in front of this book.

The cover of the books is also appealing and its designer Sunil Kaushik must be credited for the same.
Over-all, the book brings you a fascinating and cherishing story. The tale, Miller’s radiant writing and its presentation makes Kashi book a must-read.
