Story-in-Short:

Emotions Unplugged is a collection of 15 short stories based on different genres. Diksha travels through the roads of Mumbai a day prior to her divorce with her husband, Virain, Gauri steals money from her master’s locker and runs to her village, Rizwan works as a labourer in construction sites at Dubai in spite of being the son of a rich man from Bangladesh; Samar gets last gift of love from his grandmother after her death; Patrick believes after visiting a state that he has visited a country, he still had to visit 27 more countries in India; Rajat spends the night in different bars with a friend to meet a lady, Palak; an old lady who believes in her religion and hates Muslims finds an indigestible truth when she visits her daughters home; Vinit falls in love with a veiled girl while travelling in Delhi Metro to reach his office everyday and a lot more.

Numerous emotions pluck in to bring a thought provoking cocktail. Indeed pen is mightier than sword, and words have potential to bring the change. And surprisingly you never know when it does.

In my view:

The book is a fusion of stories based on several human emotions. The book comprises of 15 interesting short stories. The cover of the book is also attractive and catches the mind of a reader immediately.

A Day before My Divorce.
The story of two love birds Virain and Diksha who extend their relationship by getting married. But their married life doesn’t go well and they soon ought to separate. One day before their divorce, Virain goes to meet her up. But on the day of divorce something different happens. To know more about what happened in their lives you need to read the chapter.

Let’s Turn Oldies.
The story is about an old person who teaches a lesson to a student. Being frank about the story, it falls too short whereas in this story he could have added a bit more lines. The topic chosen is good but the story could have been much better.

Theft
It is about a girl who works at a house. She remains loyal, even her master is polite and humble towards her but then one day she steals money from her masters house in his absence. In the end you assume a thing but something really different happens. The story attaches a reader’s soul to it. It has been crafted really very well but certain things remain unclear. The story takes a sudden jump in the end.

Granny’s Last Gift of Love.
It’s a complete emotional story. It’s a story describing the bond that grandparents and grandchildren share. It’s very touching story expressing love between a grandson and his ailing grandmother.

The First Love.
It is a very sweet love story wherein a boy falls for a girl in his school days. But he is a bit hesitant and shy and doesn’t confess his feelings to her. It’s a lovely story with a perfect beginning and a perfect ending.

The Improbable Truth.
It’s a really good story related to the past of Madhu. The sins committed by Madhu in the past create certain circumstances in her present. It’s an interesting story with a touch of suspense.

A Country with 27 Other Countries.
The story is of Patrick Bolt an Australian who loves travelling. He visits Pune where he befriends Rohit. It is a story with the thoughts on Communalism, Communal violence and differentiation between languages. The descriptive part of the story is good but I think the author could have extended a story to give it a logic end.

After College.
It’s a love story of Aditi and Aman who fall in love during their college days. The story is well-framed with raising emotions in it.

One Wild Night.
This story has won my heart. ‘Tit for Tat’ is the central message of the story. The beginning is general but the ending is hysterical and comical. It’s a story with a shocking and humorous touch.

And God Said Yes!
In Love religion should not stand as a barrier; this is what the story highlights. A tamilian Brahmin girl marries to a Muslim boy and hides the boys religion from her mother. But one day, under a circumstance when her mother gets to know this she is left dumbstruck. The concept chosen by the author is really good but there was an error in my copy. A part of the story has not been printed on page 103.

The Veiled Girl.
A sweet romantic story which touches heart and soul of a reader. The story basically is of a boy who falls in love for a girl when his sight falls on her eyes. A very lovely romantic story which holds attention till the end.

The Groom
Family’s pressure on girl for marriage at an early age that’s what this story comprises off. It’s about a girl who doesn’t wants to get married but is forced to do so by her family. The story highlights a conservative mind-set of certain people towards girls and their marriage. Again, this story too is a well-written one!

The Misunderstanding.
Ego, attitude, pride leads to misunderstanding in the story. The topic chosen by the author is really good. It’s about two good friends and between their friendship stands a wall of misunderstanding. This confusion which begins over a petty reason leads to their parting. The story really prompts a good message to the readers. It’s a well narrated story.

Flowers of Hope.
This is a story narrated by an English teacher about her student’s closeness to a baby. The story is full of emotions and while going through the story one can actually feel those emotions. All in all it’s a fantastic story to read.

Karma Returns.
The story reminds me of a quote by William Shakesphere: The attempt and not the deed confounds us. It’s a story of a rich person who commits wrong things and then he gets a result of those wrong deeds further in his life. As it is the story is written good and the suspence part further embellishes it.
Over- all the book is good and the stories are conceptual.

Each and every story has been given a blend of emotions. Although the stories are fiction tales yet while reading it one feels as if they are real. In short, the stories have been given a realistic touch.

Some stories in it like the 2nd and 7th one could have been written more perfectly but others were good. Stories such as the 8th and 11th had less of emotions and left quite loose. Stories like the 1st, 3rd, 9th, 10th and 15th really touch the heart. Also, a part of story no. 10th isn’t published and then it again continues on the next page. This error breaks a reader’s link to the story. Otherwise, the book is good and enjoyable too. I would give it 3.65 out of 5. Readers should purchase and read Emotions Unplugged!
  • The book is available in all the leading bookstores.
