Book: We the people - Behind a Veil
Author: Lalima Yadav
Category: Poetry.
Rating: 3/5.
Story-in-Short:
In the world of today, we have many social evils existing
within the society, that we live in. Take a look! Around and you will find
CRIME, bulling, racism, discrimination, illiteracy, child abuse and the list
goes on. How to get out of it? What to do?
In my opinion, literature will play a huge part in trying to
get the nation to eradicate all such evils and shape a better society. So,
keeping this in my mind, I have penned down the feelings and emotions on the
behalf of the victims of such social evils so that people could realize their
pain and agony buried in their hearts. This book is an initiative by me to
create awareness in the society, esp. the young minds. This book is a
motivation in its own way. It is the time to take a stand, raise your voice and,
bring a change. Each endeavour that is undertaken by anyone against evils is a
worth contribution to the society.
Uniqueness of the book is a topic itself,
nowhere, a poetry book on the social issues had been presented ever therefore
in its own range this book is for everyone because you are too a part of this
world where the social evils exist and time has come to be a part of a novel
deed and transform the society.
In my view:
I am done reading We the people – Behind a veil. The
beautiful cover of the book is enough for readers to know what the book is
about. The designer of the book should be credited for the cover! Also,
congrats to Moments Publication House for bringing out this book!
This book contains a collection of 26 poems from a debutant
poetess Lalima Yadav. So-far, you must have read poems dedicated to a
particular topic, say Romance etc. But these 26 poems are really, really
different. Each and Every poem is based on a social issue.
Poems in the book are composed in a very beautiful
manner. The poetess has been fair enough while describing the emotions of her
and the victims who fall prey to these social evils. And I think that’s the
uniqueness of this book.
The book begins with a poem on child abuse and then it
covers all the major and minor social issues like racial discrimination, child
labour, dowry, inequality with the females, acid attacks, honour killing, rape,
poverty, cheatings and betrayal in love affair, drugs and alcohol, ill
treatment given to the aged people, corruption, untouchability, discrimination
between boys and girls, discrimination based on religion, prostitution, etc.
Every poem is heart-touching with emotions and feelings which can be felt while going through them.
Speaking about the drawbacks: There are spelling errors in
certain poems which could have been avoided. The titles of 4th, 14th,
and 15th poem could have been attractive. Although the 4th
poem has a good start but its ending falls lose. To the 4th poem, the
poetess could have given a perfect closure which she hasn’t.
The layout of the book, internally, needs a revision. The name of the book and the poetess, which
has been written on the top could have been in different font or bolded or
underlined as often a reader thinks it to be a line of the poem and reads it.
This creates confusion which leads to distraction of
attention while reading the poetry's. I am very sure that all these things will be kept in mind by the
poetess during her future projects.
Over-all, the book is good and the poetess has covered all
the social issues, giving messages, urging to bring about a positive change in
the society as well as in the nation. People, especially teenagers must surely
grab their copies of this book.
Keeping everything in mind, I would rate it with 3/5. My
best wishes to the poetess as well her publisher!
