Story-in-Short:
Each one of us, in one way or another, is obsessed- whether by the
intricacies of life or the finality of death. We are plagued by our
thirst for control, driven by our hunger for love and addicted to the
demons that ultimately consume us. A sensitive portrayal of one's
deepest emotions, this collection of stories explores the psyche of an
individual...their most vivid desires, most profound fears and the
ultimate revelation of their darkest secrets.
OBSESSION brings together love and lust, betrayal and hurt, grief, life and longing. They are stories that strip the human spirit of all pretence, exposing shame and sorrow, desire and desperation. Woven around characters that could well be you and I, these are modern day chronicles of everyday heroes, fallen or exalted. Stories that thrust us towards introspection and self-realisation, these are narratives that force us to explore the hidden us, and the truths that we often refuse to see.
OBSESSION is one man's quest to create the perfect wife, a widow's desperate attempts to remove the shackles of greed or anther's man's perspective of love. OBSESSION runs the gamut of human experience and endeavour and expression, creating a tempestuous display of heat and ice and launching the reader into a familiar yet sombre world.
In my view:
Here I am done reading this wonderful book, a collection of
short stories by four talented authors. The book begins and ends with absorbing
stories giving readers a deep insight on several crucial topics. As the book
begins, readers come across several engrossing stories with proper narration
and beautiful characterization.
The characters in the book are rich in emotions. Feelings of
a taunted mother, love and affection of lovers, a mothers love for her child
and her grief at his tragic loss, a person’s craving to fulfil desires,
aspirations of females, the difference in outlook of certain things around us
and misunderstanding between people are featured so very well in the respective
stories.
Also, the pain that a women bears for stabilizing her life,
massacres and riots that happen in the country, fluctuating and capricious
feelings of humans and their perspective towards the other creatures are
explicitly described in the stories presented by this book.
These stories are unlike many others that aware a reader
about the concept and intention in the beginning itself. Most stories in this book
go on easy pace, fulfilling wishes of an avid reader. The title of each and
every story is catchy. The narration of the stories is completely
comprehensible and the story lines are mesmerizing. Each and every story in the
book is encompassed by rich vocabulary. And this adds up to the exquisiteness
of the book.
Drawbacks:
Although there are many creditable stories in the book, some stories require
contemplation. Present are a few stories which tend to drag a reader’s
attention from the book. Also some parts in these stories feel exaggerated.
Ripe Mangoes, The Making of a Married Woman, Letting Go,
Inglorious Love, My Husband’s Best Friend, In Lieu of Love and A Knife’s Fate
are really worth mentioning stories from the book.
All in all, the readers will surely enjoy reading this book.
Excluding those few stories, the others are really engrossing from beginning to
end.
Taking everything into account, I would rate the book with
4/5. Congratulations to all the four authors. Hope they keep up this spirit of
writing. Looking forward to read many more interesting books by the authors!
